Built for the players in our community.
OVP is a beach volleyball tournament organization based in the Sarasota and Bradenton area. We run events across Florida, from South Florida up through Tampa.
The pro talent in this area does not have enough high level events close to home, and the players coming up behind them do not get many chances to play in that kind of field. We run tournaments that fix both.
Players get real matches against strong teams, meet the people in the scene, and develop.
Open and AA divisions
Open for the top teams in the area. AA for the players coming up behind them.
Cash payouts
Every event pays out. August 29 pays 100% in Open and 50% in AA.
Gulf Coast and beyond
Based in Sarasota and Bradenton, running events from South Florida up through Tampa.
OVP is player run.
This is starting out as a player run organization, and it is going to take a lot of help from the community and other players to get it off the ground. If you have the interest and the energy to help make these events something special, text us.
Everything players ask us
If your question is not here, text 386.530.5002 and we will answer it.
Will this event award AVP points?
We are working on getting our AVP affiliation. If it lines up in time, August 29 will award points, so it is a tentative yes for now.
If not this event, we will definitely be able to award points at future events.
What does it cost to enter?
Men's Open is $150 per team. Men's AA is $85 per team.
How many teams can sign up?
Fifteen teams per division right now. We want to expand the divisions based on the interest they get, so if there is extra room in one division because the other is light on signups, we will open it up to more teams.
What format are you running?
Open is double elimination with an Olympic crossover. We plan to run full match play, and if things are moving slowly we may switch to one game to 28 in the contenders bracket.
AA is pool play into bracket play with seeding, so everybody gets a lot of games.
Will there be a Volleyball Life page?
We plan on it. OVP is new, so we have to wait to get approved before we can create one. Once our organization is approved, we will make the event page there, where you can formally sign up and view the teams and brackets.
Until then, registration is by text.
What is the venue like?
Waterside Place is a new development in the Lakewood Ranch area. The sand is very deep and a bit coarse, the opposite of somewhere like Siesta Key or St. Pete Beach where the sand is finer and more compact. There are no shells to worry about getting cut up on, and the net systems are really nice.
There are a lot of great restaurants within walking distance inside the community, and a Publix not too far. Public restrooms and free parking.
What should I bring?
There is not a lot of shade out there. A couple palm trees and some hammocks, so if you want consistent shade we recommend bringing your own tent setup.
We also recommend bringing your own cooler full of drinks so you can stay hydrated throughout the day. There is a public water fountain, as well as a hose if you need to rinse off.
How can I get involved?
OVP is starting out as a player run organization, and it is going to take a lot of help from the community and other players to get it off the ground.
If you have the interest and the energy to help make these events memorable and help us run them, reach out. We want to make you part of it and use your talents and energy.
What rules do you play by?
All AVP sanctioned rules. Our events are player reffed, and the decision of the player refs is final, assuming they fully and correctly understand the rule behind the call. Where a ref missed a call and an understanding cannot be met, the tournament director will always advocate for a redo of the play.
We want a competitive but friendly environment, so conduct is handled with yellow and red cards. Read the full rules.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
Yes. Every player signs one at check-in. You can read it here.
